Dragon Teeth is a posthumously published Western novel by Michael Crichton set in the 1876 American West, focusing on the fierce "Bone Wars" rivalry between paleontologists Othniel Charles Marsh and Edward Drinker Cope. The story follows William Johnson, a privileged Yale student who joins Marsh's expedition, is later abandoned by him, and then falls into Cope's orbit, ultimately becoming embroiled in a dangerous quest to protect enormous dinosaur fossil discoveries. The novel portrays the brutal, lawless frontier, the burgeoning field of paleontology, and Johnson's transformation from an arrogant student into a resourceful survivor.
